We are learning words, music and actions, and we are increasing our repertoire of songs and rhymes every day. Lots of the songs we sing have actions or signs. These support memory and help the children learn the words. Actions help children participate when they feel shy about singing. Don't worry if your child is not yet singing in worship. By the end of the morning, the whole class is in full and fine voice!
We learned a naming song where each child speaks his or her name to the class and hears his or her name sung back. This offers everyone the opportunity to be heard in the group and to practice listening to others. Knowing the names of classmates is a good start to making new friends. We sing to praise God and know Him better.
This week the Rivers Class experienced our first music class. Mrs Mauldin, the music teachers in the Lower School, came to lead us in singing.
She will come every Friday after park. We listened carefully as Mrs Mauldin told us how she loves to sing so much that she sings instead of saying "Hello" and "Goodbye."
Our eyes focused on Mrs Mauldin and our voices were strong. For one song we changed our faces from sad to happy as we sang a story about Mama Duck and her five little ducks. It was an enjoyable time with everyone participating.
