During activity time, half of the seventh grade class came and sat on the nest to read their stories. We paired one or two Rivers students with each big kid.
The Rivers children were excited and some wanted to hear every story. "There's only two kids' stories I didn't hear yet."
One story featured a monster. A few children were reluctant to hear that story until the seventh grader assured them it was a kind monster.
At the end of the morning we reflected on the stories they heard.
"The monster liked cheese puffs. The monster got them, not the boy." -Addison Lowney
"A boy went to the shop, got some materials, and built a tree house. The end. It was a very exciting story." -Alex
"I heard one about colors. And there were two animals in the next girl's story, a cat and a giraffe." -Willow Carney

Mustard Seed School has a long history of learning through multi-grade collaboration. When we return from Thanksgiving break, two middle school students will join the Rivers Class as interns for one hour a day. These internships are highly coveted positions with students eagerly anticipating the year they can apply. This time is also anticipated by The Nest as we see the rewarding relationships that develop. I wonder which of our readers will return in December.
