Exploring in Drama

The Rocks and Rivers Classes have been acting out what they have learned in the exploration of cooking in the drama area.  Students have been using some of the new vocabulary words we have learned including "spatula," "whisk," "ladle," "measuring spoon," and "chopping" while cooking with friends.

AT to AA: "Let's make a cake.  We need 3 eggs. And now we need to add some sugar."

A lot of pancakes were made at first, but as the students have had new "ingredients" introduced in the kitchen they have expanded to cooking things such as salmon, pie, spinach, muffins, soup and cakes. They also have had the chance to cut up wooden fruits and vegetables with knives.

JZ: "Where's the knife? I need the knife."

AY: "Right here."

JZ: "Oh, thank you!"

Where should we bake the muffins and cakes?  A group of Rivers students were challenged to build an oven for the drama area so they went on a short walk downstairs to see the ovens that are there.  We talked about what was in the oven (racks), the kind of door they had (one with a bottom hinge, the other with 2 doors with hinges on the left or right side).

NB: "Look at all the racks in this one!"

They decided to make an oven that had 2 doors and later decided you could take one away and it could open from the top down.

After we left the kitchen downstairs one of the students looked at the teacher and said, "That was so cool!"
