Jack, Be Nimble

The Rivers Class has a time after snack when we gather together to sing songs and chant rhymes. Some are nursery rhymes familiar to most and others songs are new. This week we learned Jack, Be Nimble and everyone in the class bravely volunteered to be Jack and take a turn jumping over a real candle stick. 

Our songs, in worship and the classroom, frequently have actions or signs. These physical motions help the children remember the words and offer quieter children a way to participate. We often see children doing the actions to a new song before they join the singing. 

Throughout the year we will add to our repertoire of rhymes and songs. There are often connections between our themes of study or the time of year and our songs. Next week Mrs. Mauldin, our music teacher, will visit and bring her own songs for us.
