Cold Weather Park

Last week, the thermometer took a drop as the temperature plummeted. Outdoor play is an integral part of our program and we go outdoors in all kinds of weather. The children were well equipped with coats, hats, and gloves.

We visited one of the fields in the park. The children explored their new play environment, playing chase and finding hiding places. Many children collected fallen sticks and twigs. 

One group discussed the finer points of how to make a fire.

Sticks were used as drawing tools.

The largest fallen branch had both seeds and buds to observe.

We aim to be outdoors as often as we can. In the event of heavy rain, icy conditions or when temperatures are below 20 degrees, however, students will play indoors.
This National Weather Service article provides information about being outdoors in cold weather. Their top advice is to wear gloves or mittens, a hat, and dress in layers of clothes.

Thank you for providing the proper gear for outside play.  As you can see, there are so many benefits for the children as they explore the park in different weather.
