"Take the Elevator Up, Take the Elevator Down"

This week we welcomed a guest visitor: Mr. Reynaldo Barrera, who is the Facilities Manager at Mustard Seed School... and Melanie's uncle! Mr. Barrera answered many of our questions about the elevator at school, which we pass each day as we are head out the back door on our way to the park.

We had a lot of questions and concerns about the safety of the elevator, and we wondered how it worked. 

Mr. Barrera told us that the elevator at school only works with a special key that he (and a few other people at school) have and are allowed to use. He showed us how to "call" the elevator, which stays on Floor #1 until it is needed.

Mr. Barrera asked us if we would like to take the elevator up to Floor #4, and we exclaimed, "Yes!" All of the Rivers Class students and teachers fit in the elevator.

Look at the expressions on our faces as we took the elevator up!

We noticed the control panel and the buttons for each floor.

We watched the numbers change on the panel as the elevator went up. We stopped at Floor #4, and Mr. Barrera was waiting for us when the doors opened.

Then we took the elevator all the way down to Floor #1, and then back up to our floor: Floor #2.  We safely walked out the door of the elevator as one student exclaimed, "That was a cool elevator!"

We had some final questions for Mr. Barrera. We asked when he used the elevator, but we also were curious about who else used the elevator. We wondered if students ever used the elevator.
