In drama, the children have been telling their own stories. Each child has imagined and expressed several stories while Ms. McHugh was busy writing them down.
As the children heard each other's stories, they have been inspired with new ideas to include in their own stories.
Then there have been opportunities to act the stories out. The children loved helping to bring these stories to life with sets and costumes and with their own acting.
Ms. McHugh has started by reading the story aloud so that the children could choose parts. Sometimes an interested audience has gathered to see how things will go.
And many have been very brave and have begun to act out the stories for the whole class. Two groups had an opportunity to try this week and other groups will soon have their turns too.
Here are the two mini-plays from this week. The first is a story about a wolf and three superheroes that was told by Olivia. The second is the story of a monster family that was told by Cassidy.
Sadly, we are saying good-bye to the Daddy Monster, Henry. Henry's family is moving to Wyckoff as they await the arrival of a new baby. We will miss Henry but are so excited about his new baby sibling and his new house.
We also welcomed a new friend this week. Zoe Cassadayho has been attending the Rocks Class this year and she will be coming to the Rivers Class as well for the last weeks of school. Zoe's mother is helping in the First Grade Sun Class as Ms. Brasser is starting her maternity leave. We are so happy to have Zoe with us for these weeks.
