Harvest and Feast

Two weeks ago, the Rivers Class helped to plant lettuce seeds.
They watered them and checked on them as the seedlings pushed up through the soil
under our special grow lights.

These microgreens are quick growing and they are already ready to harvest.
The students were very excited to pick a sprout and to taste it.
"Can I go to eating first, please?" asked one student.

The students learned how to pick a sprout and pinch off the root.
Next, they were invited to taste the lettuce.

"Yummy!"

The children could try the microgreens dipped in a small collection of options that included extra virgin olive oil, lemon-infused olive oil, apple balsamic vinegar, and sea salt.

There were so many new tastes to evaluate.

Everyone bravely tried this new food.
Many children took a lot of servings to try everything thoroughly.

Several children came back for a second turn of harvesting and
tasting the fruit of their labor.
