A Trip to the Hudson River

On Monday, we asked the children what they thought we might see at the river.  We had been reading some books about rivers and thinking about ways that people use the river.  The children offered about sixteen ideas.  Everything from trees and boats to sharks and monster trucks.  Teachers recorded the children's ideas and we brought the list along for our trip on Wednesday.

Thank you to all of the parents who came along with us.  The children loved having a parent partners while we walked to Pier C.  The children also loved playing together in a new park.

 

There was a time to observe the river as we crossed over the bridge. We saw ripples and waves and heard splashing.

 

And we had a lovely snack at the river.

After eating, we reviewed our list and checked to see what we really see at the Hudson River.  About half of our ideas were accurate, although there were some things, like fish, that we did not see but that we know are there. 

Lastly, we took turns singing with Ms. Santos and going down to the river to look for some beautiful things from nature.

Children also were able to take turns throwing rocks into the water.  While they were watching their rocks splash, they  noticed more about how deep the water is and what colors is might be.
