Thankfulness

It is hard to believe that we are coming to the end of the first term.  It has been such a full time in the Rocks and Rivers Classes.

We have been celebrating some of our favorite new skills, especially taking a chance to have a few paint experiences before we close paint for a while in December in order to focus on a new art area.  Children have worked on individual paintings and also on cooperative color exploration.

One of the collaborative paintings became part of Thanksgiving project that will be sent home Thursday.  The painting the children made was cut and used to decorate a candle that might be used at your family meal times or at your Thanksgiving table.

We encourage you to take a few minutes in the next weeks to say out loud some of the things for which you are thankful.  It is good for the children to hear those who surround them expressing thanks and the hope and calm that accompany that act.  We have been pausing to say thank you to God for our snack each day.  When the teachers forget, the children always remember. Thankfulness feels good.

The children started this process at school.  They named people whom they love and things for which they would like to thank God.  The list is building into something quite lovely. Everything from brothers and sisters to tape and tigers. From the moon to favorite stories to going to the park.

It is a good time for us to say, as well, that we are thankful for all of you and for time spent learning with your children.

In case you would like to use it at home, our daily blessing before snack is:

For good food and those who prepare it,
For good friends with whom to share it,
We thank you Lord.
Amen.
