We started our trip at the bus stop outside school on Willow Avenue. We watched many empty buses go by without stopping until our bus, the 1-2-6, arrived. We matched the numbers on the bus to the numbers on the bus stop sign.
Although everyone had been on a bus before, some students had been nervous about the trip. Nerves soon dissipated as we all began to enjoy the ride.
The children wondered why the bus kept stopping and, looking out the windows, they noticed all the stop signs and traffic lights. Mr Postema, who decided to come along with us today, was impressed by our knowledge of signs. The children learned more today, making their best guesses from the pictures and asking an adult to read the words every time they saw a new sign.
We had previously wondered whether the bus would have seatbelts and found our answer.
Mr Postema demonstrated how to use the strap to hold on if you were standing up.
Once at the bus terminal we drew the waiting buses. We recorded our new observations and drew on our memories of the bus journey.
On the way back to school, we rode at the back of the bus. The bus driver turned on the wipers to clear rain from the windshield. The lyrics to our new favorite song were coming true. Swish, swish, swish!
It was a busy morning with lots of excitement. The children were observant, patient, and eager to learn from this experience. Thank you to our three chaperones for helping make this such a smooth trip.
