Creating Color

After collecting items from nature on the walking trip, Rivers class children brought them to class, handled, noticed and talked about them.  One thing they noticed was color.  There was brown, and then there was a different brown.  There was one green, and a different kind of green.  Could we mix together paint to match the colors from nature that we saw?  It was a challenge.

After adding a color, the paint needs to be mixed.

It needs to be lighter.  What color should we add to make it lighter?

Shaking hard makes the best color.

What does this color look like? What shall we call it?

One leaf can have more than one color in it.

After creating our colors, the children tried them out...

...and noticed that they could continue blending new colors, even on the paper!
