Snow!

Ms. Buckley:  "There is snow and ice everywhere!  It's fantastic!  Here are the rules:  You may throw snow straight down.  You may throw it at the bushes.  You may not throw it at a friend.  If you touch snow, your gloves may get wet.  Think if that is OK for you."

As we walked, children discussed the snow and their own rules for snow.

     "Yesterday, it snowed and it hailed."
     "We played in the snow.  It doesn't make good snowballs."
     "I ate it from the sky, like this."
     "You can eat it from the sky, but you can't eat it from the ground."
     "No!  The ground is dirty!"


Some children found that taking off their gloves to wipe off melted snow worked well.


Some gathered and scooped snow together to make a big pile.


Some threw snow at the bushes -- even over the bushes!


Others gathered collections of snow chunks.


Unusual things were found in the snow.


Special patterns could be left in the snow.


"It looks like diamonds!"
