These first days in the Rivers Class have been a strong start. The children are learning what it means to come to school and are enjoying both independence and new relationships.
The children have been trying things that can be very hard. Using scissors properly is one. It is sometimes difficult to remember where your fingers go and which way the scissors should point.
It is important to remember how to safely carry scissors and how to clean up after your work. This part of school, trying difficult things, is very serious work.
Other parts of school are a different kind of work. An active and interactive and playful kind of work. The drama area opening today was such a delight to everyone.
I think Ms. Knoester ate a lot of pretend eggs and pancakes. And everyone learned a little about playing and sharing together.
Sharing meals and stories and songs are other ways we learn about how to be together and about what kind of community this is.
Learning how to be together in new ways, and how to do new things, and to do old things in new ways, these are the joys of the early days of school.
