What kind of bouncy balls do you have at your home?
When I looked around our home, I found a blue "Mustard Seed ball!"
For these games, you will need a ball that you can bounce and catch and sidewalk chalk.
Here are two bounce & catch games that you can play right out
in front of your house or apartment.
Remember to be safe: if your ball bounces away from you into the street, let a grown up get it for you. Do NOT chase your ball into the street!
Game #1: Partner Bounce & Catch
[You will need a partner for this activity.]
Extension and challenge: Try backing up a step (or one sidewalk line). Then back up another step (sidewalk line).
Game #2: Easy 4-Square Bounce & Catch
Draw a 4-Square Grid on the sidewalk with chalk: two lines (one down, one across) will make 4 "boxes."
You can add the numbers or some dots if you would like:
You can play this game with a partner or challenge yourself.
Can you create other bounce & catch games that you could play with a bouncy ball?
Please share your games so that we can all join in the fun!
In 8 years, when the Mustard Seed Rebels Middle School basketball team
is famous for their incredible skill
at bounce passing the ball to a teammate,
we will remember their early Bounce & Catch practice in the Rivers Class!
