Making an Easter Card for your Family: Stems and Leaves

Monday, April 6: Making an Easter Card for your Family
 (making Branches, Stems, and Leaves)

Today we will start to make a special Easter card with blossoms or flowers for our families!

You will need construction paper in several colors 
(white or blue for your background paper, and green, brown or black), scissors, glue:

Step 1: Observation

Here are some pictures of spring flowers and blossoming trees 

that I see outside my window. 

Look closely at the branches, stems, and the leaves. 

[Next time we will look at the flowers and blossoms.]

I see that the branches with cherry blossoms are dark brown or black and crooked. 

I notice that the leaves of the tulip flowers are green, curved, and wide. 

The stem is very dark green.

I see that the leaves of the daffodil flowers are tall, green, and spiky. 

The stem is green.

I notice that the leaves of the hyacinth flowers are smaller, green, curvy, and a little spiky. The stem is green.

Step 2: Choose a piece of white or light blue paper for your card (collage background). 

Step 3: Decide which spring flower or blossom you would like to make out of paper. (This is  called collage. And we have done this in the Rivers Class! Do you remember where the Collage Cart is?)

 You may use the flower pictures for ideas.

Today you will only make the branch, stem, and leaves of your spring flower or blossom. 

Step 4: Use scissors to cut the paper in strips and pieces to make your branch, stem, and leaves.

Then glue the pieces of paper that you cut onto your card (white or 
blue background paper).

When you have glued the branches, stem, leaves onto your card, put your card in a safe place to let the glue dry completely.

You will add flowers and blossoms to your card next time.
