Today we are going to create a collage nest!
This activity has several steps. You may want to take a break along the way.
You may even want to make this an activity over several days.
Birds make their nests using many different kinds of materials!
Here are some of the materials that birds use to make their nests:
Step 1: To make your collage nest, you will need a background paper, scissors, and glue:
And you will also need some nesting materials that you will use to create your nest.
Birds use all different types of materials to make their nests.
Look at all the different materials that I found in my home!
[You might want to take some time to find things that you could use for your nesting materials and continue this activity later.]
Step 2: Cutting the nesting materials into strips or smaller pieces.
Here are some of the nesting materials that I cut into smaller pieces.
Can you see that I cut lot of different materials into strips and small pieces?
Can you see bits of tissue, strips of paper, pieces of a paper bag, newspaper,
a piece of ribbon, part of a pasta box?
You can also carefully rip the nesting materials into smaller pieces if they are hard to cut with your scissors.
Step 3: Arrange pieces of your nesting materials on your background paper in a nest shape.
If your cut pieces are straight, how will you arrange them to make a round nest?
Don't forget to leave a space in the middle of your collage nest for eggs!
You might not use all your nesting materials. Save them for another activity.
Step 4: Glue the pieces of your collage nest to your background paper. Put your collage nest carefully in a safe place to let the glue completely dry.
